After much gnashing of teeth, I finally got my newest creation scanned, so finally I can "show", as in show AND tell....
So I've been making zillions of little, delicate, sparkly bracelets recently, so I've been itching to get back to my sewing machine. While surfing around, I caught the idea to made quilted cuff-like bracelets.... and I wanted to incorporate something bead-y or charm-y, to fit into the 'altered art bracelet' theme for the October CPS swap I'm going to host.
I started off by making a quick cuff template to fit my wrist, and then layering some cotton batting under a piece of batik. (Which, as it turns out, you can't see at all, so next time I'll use cheap cotton....) Then, I layered up bits and pieces.... threads, some yarn, little bits of Angelina Fibers, some snippets of fabric, whatever I've collected off of my worktable. Fused it with some Bo-nash to keep it stable, then FME all over with some lovely metallic Sulky thread. Yum! The result was so textural and sparkly, I almost wanted to wear it just like that. But, with me, "more is more...."
So I headed out to JoAnne's to get these cool word tiles... I'd seen them before, but didn't know what I would use them for....this was just what my cuff needed- a motto!! (Hey, maybe the next one should be More is More....hmmmm....) So I beaded on the motto, added some other sparkly beads, and then added a backing layer of batik to cover up all my messiness. I added a buttonhole, then whipstitched beads over the edges in lieu of a binding. I love the effect. Lastly, I added my Swarovski crystal button, which I'd squirreled away, just waiting for a special place.
I had so much fun with this one, I've started on another.... no to mention, I've got a zillion more word beads to make into snarky pieces of wearable art! I'll put a bigger pic into the wearable art photo album...
Nicely done Jenny! I like this a lot.
