I've had a number of folks ask me "How did you DO that?" after our last postcard swap...so, I'm 'fessing up. It's just rubber stamping on Angelina Fibers. If you're not familiar with them I encourage you to click on the link for more info- but, in a nutshell, they are wispy, iridescent, heat-bondable fibers that shimmer like the dickens. (Well, most of them. Some are NOT heat bondable, but you can use those in other ways. More on that another day...)
The Readers' Digest version is this:
1.Get your supplies: Angelina Fibers of your choice, permanent stamp pad, rubber stamp, teflon or non-stick pressing sheet, and a brush and some watercolors if you want to color it in. Also optional is some Fantasy Film- it stiffens up the end product and adds a little more dimension.
2. Pick a stamp- wood-backed ones work great. Don't worry about melting your rubber. You won't.
3. Ink with a solvent-based pad, like Staz-on or Ancient Page. Just NOT water-based, as the colors will run when you go to paint them in.
4. Cover with your pressing sheet, and press. No steam necessary.... just firm pressure. Keep the iron still, and lean into it. You'll smudge it if you do the 'back and forth' ironing motion.
5. Lift off pressing sheet, and remove stamp. If you like the un-fused edges look, peel it off of the sheet and it's ready to use. I personally like to re-cover it with the pressing sheet and hit it again quickly with the iron to fuse the fuzzy edges down.... then I peel it off the sheet.
6. Watercoloring is optional, but it looks so nice! I've been using my Twinkling H2O's for this, and they work great.... the stamped image creates a little dam to keep the colors from bleeding. Check into my "favorite things" posts on Twinkling H20s for resources and tips with those.
Check out the photo album on the right labeled "Angelina Photo Tutorial" for step-by-step pictures. Have fun....
